María Laura Tramanone: The Pillars of Self-Esteem

The renowned Canadian psychotherapist Nathaniel Branden established six basic pillars to restore self-esteem. It is a set of reflections on certain aspects of life that need to be worked on and cultivated in order to strengthen self-esteem. “These pillars are: living consciously; accept yourself; take responsibility for what is done, said and thought; and self-affirmation, purpose and integrity”, lists María Laura Tramanone, accompanist in Biodecoding and Professional Ontological Coaching.

– Do these pillars to which you refer follow a pre-established order as a behavior guide?

These six pillars do not necessarily follow an order, but rather interact with each other forming, as a whole, our personal growth.

– How does living consciously help us?

Living in the present allows us to be aware of our activities, thoughts, words, feelings and intentions. To start practicing it, we must observe ourselves carefully without trying to justify or explain what is perceived.

– What should be taken into account to accept oneself?

Acceptance is linked to the predisposition to observe ourselves as we are in our way of thinking, feeling, dreaming, doing, etc. That is to say, letting ourselves be as we are, taking our side and stopping fighting with ourselves, allowing us to engender a friendship and being more compassionate with what arises, precisely, from ourselves.

– What is the correct way to take responsibility for our actions and sayings?

Responsibility reminds us that we are competent to achieve and live in a balanced emotional state, and for this we must begin to cultivate self-responsibility; that is, to take charge of the consequences of our actions, thoughts, etc.

– What are self-affirmation, purpose and integrity?

Self-affirmation has to do with respecting our desires, values, and needs. This ability allows us to say what we think with respect, but being honest with our needs. We stop doing what we don’t want for the simple fact of pleasing others. The purpose has to do with the fact of “living with goals”, this brings “meaning” to our life. To cultivate this pillar we must be aware of what we want and what we need to achieve it. And integrity has to do with the coherence between my values and my actions, as well as between what we think and say. In this way, integrity, worth the redundancy, integrates, that is, it allows us to structure our personality and our behavior, making it more harmonious and coherent.

– What causes this lack of coherence in our inner being?

The lack of coherence between different vital fields usually leads to a large number of problems; the main one is that we will give ourselves reasons to criticize and feel disgusted with who we are.

– You offer the Self-Love workshop. How does it activate and help to improve self-esteem?

The Self Love workshop is a workshop with the Biodecoding approach and is aimed at all those who want a more flexible and adaptive life to experiences. Throughout the program we work on the thinking system, updating it and aligning it with the wishes of the participant.
