Palermo, Milan, New York. Three cities with which Maria Corleonethe protagonist of the series Channel 5 broadcast tonight at 9.30pm with the second episode, has to do the math. Because they are three places that punctuate the trajectory of her life and which now risk derailing it.
Maria Corleonethe plot of the second episode
After the events of the first episode, Maria (Rosa Diletta Rossi) is increasingly convinced that she wants to take her father’s place. Don Luciano Corleone (Fortunato Cerlino) has fallen ill and now There is a need for someone to carry on the family’s business and, above all, that he avenge Giovanni (Vladimir Randazzo), his twin brother killed before his eyes on the day of their parents’ anniversary.
So Maria leaves for the United States to start a new business. He is aware that moving in a chauvinistic and patriarchal world is not easy. However, he doesn’t give up at the first obstacle and leverages his skills. She is a good manager and gains the trust of the American partners.
Business across the ocean represents a new beginning. At this point his path is that of crime and the intervention of Luca Spada (Alessandro Fella) is of little use. Her partner, a young prosecutor who pursues ideals of justice and truth, wants her to return to Milan, with him, ready to build a life together.
What happened in the previous episode
The events of the first episode had the effect of a real tsunami. Maria is a stylist with a career started in Milan. He left his city, Palermo, some time ago and with it his family. When years later she decides to return, what was supposed to be a celebration turns into tragedy.
Giovanni’s murder brings back memories that he had deliberately repressed. From the beginning, both the mother Rosa (Aglaia Mora) and the father Luciano are reticent and do not provide adequate answers regarding family affairs and who might have done it.
It doesn’t take much, however, for an indomitable thirst for revenge to grow in her and in a few days he makes an important choice. She will be the one to avenge her brother, whatever the cost. Thus he begins to delve into the criminal worldeven lying to her parents, siblings and people closest to her, including Luca.
Above all, he dusts off the criminal instinct that he thought he had buried years and years before. Rocco Barresi (Giuseppe Tantillo), an old childhood friend, helps her in her hunt for the culpritalways in love with her, but linked to the rival gang.
Maria Corleonea series full of clichés along the lines of Rosy Abate
Maria Corleone is strong-willed, willing to do anything to save her family and avenge those who caused her immense pain. Rosa Diletti Rossi is perfect in the role, she reflects the prototype of the woman she is called to interpret. However, it is the series in general that generates some perplexity. The title is a clear reference to a world linked in some way to organized crime. Corleone is famous for being the birthplace of some prominent names of the Sicilian mafia. Among all, Bernardo Provenzano and Totò Riina.
With this in mind the choice of name seems to anticipate the modus operandi applied to the entire series, i.e. to be on the safe side. Playing on clichés and on the awareness of what the public appreciates. Regarding stereotypes, there are the mafia, the patriarchal family, the master father, the submissive woman but keeper of unspeakable secrets and the daughter who left everything behind to pursue her dream.
More, the other side of the coin represented by Luca, the face of justice and honestywhich provides the hook for the (usual) contrast between good and evil, between what is right and what is wrong. To further ignite the doubts, the excessive resemblance to Rosy Abate.
She too is determined, born in Palermo to a family somehow linked to mafia circles and as a child she experiences a traumatic episode. As an adult she moved to the United States and, when she returned to Sicily to get married to her boyfriend, the family context took over. Her husband is killed and she decides to avenge him. The similarities, so far, are many. However, it should be underlined that the first episode totaled 2,753,000 viewers, equal to a 16.5% share. Not an amazing result, but enough to win the evening.
