Maria (16) electrocuted in the bath while making a video call with a friend: “I saw her die” | Abroad

It’s a terrible drama: Maria Antonietta Cutillo is sitting in the bath in Avellino in southern Italy on Wednesday evening and talking to her friend via video call. Suddenly Maria’s mobile phone falls into the water. She receives an electric shock – and dies.

Her friend Fabi saw everything happen. The moment the conversation is interrupted, she immediately informs the emergency services. When the rescuers arrive at the scene of the accident, Maria is already dead. Her parents were not home at the time.

Maria’s death may be due to the fact that she was still charging her mobile phone when it fell into the water.

Charred

Everything points to a fatal short circuit. According to the Italian newspaper ‘Il Messaggero’, one of the girl’s hands was completely charred. The researchers hypothesize that Maria reached for the socket where the charger was hanging in an attempt to recover the mobile phone. But it is still too early to say for sure how Maria received the electric shock that killed her. An autopsy and further investigation should bring more clarity.

In an emotional video post on TikTok, the girlfriend said goodbye to Maria: “You flew to heaven, you were still screaming my name. The last conversation, the last laugh together, the last craziness together was today. And while you were talking to me, this happened. Your voice calling my name is in my head. I picture the scene, I picture your big green eyes.”

“She was a cheerful girl, hard-working and full of humanity,” her math teacher Assunta Muollo said with tears in her eyes according to Il Messaggero. “Her ambition was to become a good cook.”
