It was a horrible summer for Wendy van Dijk. Her trip to Thailand ended in a nightmare, because she was attacked by a terrible yellow fever mosquito. That beast completely flattened the SBS 6 star and at one point she even had to go to the hospital.

Mari worried

Quite a drama, but Wendy was quite alone. Her son Sam was very busy with his Instagramstories and DJ Errie was reportedly furnishing his new Rotterdam bachelor apartment. Luckily you still have your friends. If they are not on holiday…

In any case, her favorite powder brush Mari van de Ven was not at Wendy’s hospital bedside. “I was quite worried. Of course, it is something that you don’t know what it is and the question is how someone will get out of it,” he explains in the Weekend.

Mari on Capri

Why wasn’t Mari sitting at Wendy’s bedside? “A few weeks after she came from Thailand, she got sick here. I was abroad at the time, so I couldn’t be there for her for a while. I was on Capri in Italy, with my good friend Thomas. It was delicious. But if things had gone really badly for Wendy, I would have flown back.”

In the end he didn’t do that. “Wendy and I have texted a lot. I didn’t necessarily have to keep her positive, no, because Wendy is a very positive person anyway. And also a real go-getter. But she was very ill, so I felt very sorry for her.”

Hearts of Mari

Mari was constantly thinking about Wendy. “For her it was also something that she obviously didn’t know what it would be like, because she had never had it before. Then that’s quite strange. We joked about it too, but she was very ill the first few days. So then I kept sending her messages saying I was thinking of her with hearts and stuff.”

He concludes: “We have a lot of contact, she has been a customer for twenty years, but also a friend. Wendy is like a little sister to me. We also share a lot. Wendy is still a bit tired, but fortunately recovered. I never thought something like that could make such a difference. I will of course discuss it with her in more detail.”
