Margot Robbie could replace Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean

It was the role of his life: As Captain Jack Sparrow, Johnny Depp swayed and mumbled his way through five parts of Pirates of the Caribbean. Now it has become public that actress Margot Robbie could replace the actor in the next episode of the pirate series. This was confirmed by producer Jerry Bruckheimer. So you are currently in talks with the 31-year-old: “We are developing two Pirates scripts – one with her and one without her,” said the filmmaker. On the other hand, Depp will “not at the moment” return to the ocean as an eccentric pirate. “The future has yet to be decided,” said the 78-year-old in an interview with the culture magazine of the “Sunday Times”.

Never again Jack Sparrow

Apparently, Depp originally wanted to reprise his role in the sixth part to round out his character’s story arc. “I felt these characters should have the opportunity to say their own goodbyes,” the 58-year-old told the court, adding: “There is a way to end a franchise like this… I was planning to move on, until it was time to stop”. However, the American later announced that a return was out of the question – even if Disney offered him all the money “in this world”.

Johnny Depp, the Keith Richards of the seas

Johnny Depp played Captain Jack Sparrow in five Pirates of the Caribbean movies. The filmmakers gave him a great deal of artistic license to portray the character. It was to pay off: his charismatic interpretation of the quirky pirate lord made the series a hit with audiences. He was significantly influenced by Keith Richards. After all, Depp considers the Rolling Stones guitarist to be the greatest actual rock star – and pirates were the rock stars of their time.

Existence is at stake in court

Johnny Depp is currently suing his ex-wife Amber Heard for $50 million in damages for reputational damage and the associated loss of revenue in the film business. Heard wrote about the long-term effects of domestic violence in a 2018 op-ed by The Washington Post. In the meantime, she has launched a counterclaim with double the amount in dispute. During the trial, the details of a toxic relationship fueled by alcohol and drugs came to light. A judge’s decision has not yet been made.
