Manchester United’s March in the Premier League was miserable: a win, a draw and heavy away defeats to Liverpool and Newcastle. The people who wandered to Old Trafford in the pouring rain on Wednesday night demanded a change of course against Brentford.

Newcastle and Manchester United are tied for third and fourth place. Tottenham, who played more than two in the match, is lurking three points away.
