He was affected himself, now ex-soccer player Marco Russ is demanding an examination of the testicles during the medical check-up.
Former professional soccer player Marco Russ has suggested examining the players for testicular cancer in future as part of the usual medical check-up. “I would think it would be good to consider whether this could be part of the standard medical check-up. Heart and lungs are checked, you could still do the testicles. It’s a matter of two minutes,” said the 36-year-old old Russ of the German Press Agency. The former Eintracht Frankfurt professional was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2016 and underwent surgery as a result.
“A blood count is taken, and you can also determine the tumor marrow there. It’s definitely an option that you have to keep in mind. It wouldn’t take a lot of time. It can prevent worse consequences, there’s no question about it,” said Russ, who played in a competitive game for the first time after nine months. Testicular tumors were also recently found in Hertha’s Marco Richter and Union’s Timo Baumgartl.
