What’s next at Borussia Dortmund with Youssoufa Moukoko? BVB head coach Marco Rose made an assessment after the last Bundesliga game against Hertha BSC after reports of the super talent’s imminent farewell.
For Youssoufa Moukoko, an extremely difficult season at Borussia Dortmund ended with a moment of great happiness. The 17-year-old scored the winning goal against Hertha BSC (2-1) on the last day of the Bundesliga match.
After his goal, Moukoko ran straight to BVB icon Michael Zorc, who is leaving the club after 44 years, and thus showed his attachment to the outgoing sports director.
On the other hand, the relationship with his trainer Marco Rose seems to be a bit cooler. Moukoko, thrown back by several injuries this season, was only once in a BVB starting eleven in 2021/22. The total of 15 substitutions in the Bundesliga often took place shortly before the end of the game – like against the Berliners.
“I think that Mouki is not satisfied with the season overall, with the playing times – he’s already said so – there are a few reasons for that and I’ve always said that I see the huge talent in him that he is “, said Rose at the press conference after the end of the game.
Youssoufa Moukoko has to “earn” appearances at BVB
Rose is pleased that Moukoko was now able to prove his goal threat against Hertha BSC: “You could see his dynamism, he started at the right moment.”
At the same time, the head coach pushed afterwards: “Of course he has to develop in certain areas.”
Rose wants to work on Moukoko’s “tactical discipline, working against the ball”. At the same time, he made it clear that the youngster had to “earn” his chances of playing.
How things will continue with Moukoko at BVB does not seem to have been finally clarified, as Rose hinted: “I believe that if he stays healthy next year and we continue along the path together, he will take steps there.”
“Bild” had recently reported that the attacker “definitely wanted to leave” BVB in the summer. His contract runs until the summer of 2023.
