MTuesday 6 February on Rai 1 Sanremo 2024 begins. At the helm for the fifth consecutive year is Amadeus (in the dual role of host and artistic director). At his side, in the early evening, Marco Mengoni arrives. He is the first co-host of the 74th edition of the Festival.

Amadeus himself announced it last November 6th during the first episode of Viva Rai2!, Fiorello’s show in which he was a guest with Mengoni. «Having been the winner of the last edition, he will be the super musical guest of the first episode». A tradition that is renewed from year to year, when the winner of the previous edition goes on stage and sings the song with which he triumphed.
A sort of passing of the baton, already staged with the winners of previous years. His participation does not end here because “there is much more”, Amadeus then added: «He will be the co-host of the first evening of the Sanremo Festival». For Marco Mengoni it is about first television experience in these roles. A short time ago, however, he appeared in Amazingthe Prime Video film with Fabio De Luigi.
It is the fifth time he has graced the stage of the Ariston Theatre. The first was in 2010, at the beginning of his career, followed by a second participation and a guest appearance, until 2023.
The two victories at the Festival
In particular, 2010 saw him participate with Believe me againfinishing in third place. Born in 1988, born and raised in Ronciglione in the province of Viterbo, his career began a few months earlier. Pass the auditions for the third edition X Factor – at the time still on Rai 2 with Mara Maionchi, Morgan and Claudia Mori on the jury – and it wins.
In Sanremo he is among the favorites and reaches the podium. Back in 2013 with The essentialmarking his first victory. He took part in the Eurovision Song Contest of the same year and came seventh. He also won the covers evening with his version of Let it be, accompanied by the Kinngdom Choir. Furthermore, he is awarded the Giancarlo Bigazzi prize, awarded by the orchestra to the best musical composition. In May he stops again at the Eurovision Song Contest and gets fourth place. He does not return to his homeland empty-handed, because he receives the Marcel Bezençon Award for best musical composition.
At Sanremo 2024 after the success of Two lives
The song is written by Marco Mengoni with Tropico (pseudonym of Davide Petrella) and Davide Simonetta (d.whale), also present at Sanremo 2024 as authors, the first of Emma, Ghali, Rose Villain and The Kolors. The second by Annalisa and Geolier. Two lives is contained in the album Matter (Skin)his seventh album.
Until now has achieved five platinum records, 250 million streams and the official video has exceeded 100 million views. On Spotify it appears to be the fourth most listened to Sanremo 2023 song over the course of the year Ash of Lazza, Tango of Tananai e Super heroes by Mr. Rain.
In the FIMI ranking it comes in second place among the best-selling singles. Eurovision gives the song an echo that goes beyond national borders. It enters the charts in several countriesincluding Austria, Greece, Iceland, Lithuania, Sweden and Switzerland.

Over the course of his career, Mengoni has released 8 studio albums, with which he achieved 79 platinum records, over 2.5 billion streams and 10 tours. Furthermore, in 2022 he won the Nastro d’argento for best original song with Dear very distant loveincluded in the soundtrack of the film by Francesca Archibugi The hummingbird.
Last fall he toured several European cities, including Amsterdam, Brussels, Frankfurt, Paris and Vienna. Next year he will return to Italian stages. In fact, presales are open for Marco in the 2025 stadiums, departing on June 26th from the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in Naples. Rome follows on July 2nd (Olympic Stadium), and then moves on the 5th to Dall’Ara in Bologna.
On July 9th they stop at the Olimpico in Turin, on the 13th at San Siro, Milan. On July 17th it is the turn of the Euganeo Stadium in Padua, followed on the 20th by the San Nicola in Bari. It closes on 24 July 2025 at the San Filippo Stadium in Messina.
