Marco Borsato no longer goes to Albert Heijn: ‘They look with disdain’

Marco Borsato currently no longer physically visits Albert Heijn or Jumbo. He is looked at with contempt there, says son Luca. “They shout what they want.”

Daily life has only become more complicated for Marco Borsato now that the Public Prosecution Service has decided to prosecute him for indecency with an underage girl. These types of sexual offenses evoke extremely strong emotions in some people and you must of course be careful with them in public life.

Not to Jumbo

Marco’s freedom has therefore been restricted, his son Luca Borsato says in the podcast 30 Minutes Raw. “By definition, he doesn’t physically go to the Jumbo or Albert Heijn very often. He doesn’t do that very much. Occasionally yes. Every now and then I get something when something is needed. But usually he just orders his groceries.”

Marco and Luca currently form a household in Alkmaar. “Then he will cook or I will arrange something else. And then the two of us enjoy a glass of wine and a very nice meal together. Just talking about which match is on TV again tonight.”

Contemptuous

Luca says he would be relieved if Marco could tell his story and there had been a verdict. “Can you go to the Jumbo together again? Is that what you say?”, presenter Ruud de Wild asks him.

Hopefully, Luca answers. “That would be ideal, wouldn’t it? That you can go to the Jumbo without people necessarily staring at you in a very contemptuous way? And it’s not that bad in Alkmaar, because Alkmaar is quite a down-to-earth people. And know him in that sense.”

“But those are things that make me think: yes, you know, you don’t always want to run the risk that someone can shout at you whatever they want whenever you walk on the street, do you?”

Don’t interfere

Doesn’t Luca feel the need to speak out on this issue? “This is certainly something I shouldn’t get involved in, even if I wanted to. Well, because it’s about a sensitive subject and secondly because I really have nothing to do with it at all. My sister has nothing to do with it. My brother has nothing to do with it.”

He continues: “Neither did my mother. We are really completely separate from it. But what has made me angry is because we obviously know a little more than what is being said. Many people hear one side of the story. Also because my father is not saying anything in the media at the moment, which I think is the smartest choice.”

‘I know more’

What makes him think that? “Because it all has to be investigated first. He cannot tell his story yet and we do know that story. Plus we know which specific individuals, either my dad or the women in question… Who we are talking about, so to speak. So I know a little more, but not everything.”

He concludes: “It is just very sensitive for us to talk about this. Besides the fact that we can’t actually say anything about it, as we might disrupt the entire process in that sense. So I think it’s best for everyone that we all keep our mouths shut.”
