Celebrities can hide from the press when they are under fire, but if you have to report to court at a certain point, that becomes a lot more difficult. The images of Thijs Römer being chased into the court parking garage were very uncomfortable. And that is what Marco Borsato will soon be doing.

World collapsed

Marco is very concerned about this, says an insider in the weekly magazine Privé. “Since he knew that he will have to appear in court in due course, he has become more introverted than ever. It’s hard to gauge what he’s thinking. It is clear that the news about the impending legal proceedings has hit him hard.”

His world collapsed when it became known that he would be prosecuted, the source said. “We were in great uncertainty for almost two days because he immediately made himself unreachable. Then you start thinking about all kinds of things. Marco has been depressed ever since that news.”

Alarm bells

Those around Marco fear that he will harm himself, says the Private source. “Every time he doesn’t answer the phone for a while and his son doesn’t know where he is, alarm bells ring for us and we are relieved when one of us has received another sign of life.”

He continues: “It’s a maddening feeling when I call Marco and he doesn’t answer… If that happens a few times in a row, I get a feeling of panic. No, I’m not going to explain what I feel. I can’t get over what I would say then. It even makes me emotional.”

Media circus

And the worst is yet to come: a media circus is in the pipeline. “I am anxiously awaiting the day when it becomes known when the trial against Marco will start. And what about the day he has to appear in court? After everything he has already had to endure, that last one will be one of the darkest days of his life.”

“The whole of the Netherlands will be watching. I’m sure he’s really looking forward to this. If necessary, we will all drag him through this nightmare. And whatever the judge’s decision will be, we will continue to support Marco. Everyone, including Marco, has the right to a second chance.”
