Marcelo and Olympiacos go their separate ways. Investor Evangelos Marinakis’ Greek club, which made headlines in the summer with a string of high-profile transfers including Marcelo’s former Real-mates James Rodríguez and the Brazilian himself, confirmed previous reports of a contract termination. “The time was short, but long enough to create a lifelong connection,” wrote the club on Saturday, without giving any further background to the farewell.
According to the Greek portal “Sport24.gr”, Marcelo instead has an offer for a lucrative contract with another team. What that is is unknown. However, a change is currently possible in a few larger leagues. The transfer window is still open in the North American MLS or, until this Saturday, in Turkey. At Olympiakos, after the change less than half a year ago, it remains at ten appearances with at least three goals from the full-back.
