Marcel van Roosmalen and Gijs Groenteman would be the perfect solution to the Yvonne Coldeweijer problem, thinks Johan Derksen. “I think they should not be lost.”
Yvonne Coldeweijer has become Talpa’s headache. She is paid handsomely, but just doesn’t deliver. Her half-hour juice program in the evening of Net5 has been in the works for seven months, but she doesn’t seem to have any talent for TV making, because she continuously asks for a postponement. Now even indefinitely.
Rancorous tips
According to critics, Yvonne’s show is canceled because Talpa is tired of it, and Johan Derksen would be completely fine with that. “I think Boulevard and Shownieuws cover that segment very well in a civilized manner and Ms Coldeweijer crosses a red line, because she turns rumors and spiteful tips into news and throws it out into the world.”
He continues in the podcast Greetings from Grolloo: “It destroys marriages, families suffer, people are fired. I don’t think Mrs. Coldeweijer’s results are such that you should be proud that you have to create a program based on them.”
‘Better Marcel!’
Johan does not rule out that Yvonne will eventually be removed from the schedule. “Fortunately, I heard that she would be quite difficult behind the scenes, but I don’t understand John de Mol, because if there is one family that has fallen victim to juice channels, it is his.”
He continues: “And when I look at what is for sale in the world outside Mrs. Coldeweijer, which I would be ashamed of if I were in charge at Talpa… You could also say: where we planned Mrs. Coldeweijer, we put Marcel van Roosmalen with his show.”
Not lost
The talk show of Marcel and his co-host Gijs Groenteman is being cut back. “It was thrown out at the NPO because those viewing figures are not that great, but for a channel like Veronica or Net5 at Talpa, these are excellent viewing figures. I actually think that the duo’s alternative talk show should not be lost. That is something special.”
“It stands out and I think John de Mol should think about the fact: what is more fun for the TV viewer, Yvonne Coldeweijer or Marcel van Roosmalen? I would ignore the target group that is asking for Mrs. Coldeweijer. That may cost some viewers, but it increases the level of your channel.”
Crazy ones
It would be a much better choice, Johan thinks. “Talpa has to make sure it doesn’t become a channel for crazy people, right? We have Rob Geus back, I think that’s a horror. We have Mrs. Coldeweijer back, I think that’s even worse.”
The choice is currently huge, he concludes: “Programs that would suit commercial channels very well are now being canceled at the public broadcaster.”
