It comes as no surprise, but now it is in black and white: Marcel van Roosmalen and Gijs Groenteman have lost quite a few viewers with their talk show on SBS 6. “Abracadabra.”
The new SBS 6 talk show Marcel & Gijs kicked off on Monday evening with 611 thousand viewers and a 14 percent market share in the commercial target group. A cautious score, because Talpa bobo Marco Louwerens had said on the radio in the afternoon what he hopes the program will be about after the initial interest.
No champagne
Marco about his viewing figures expectations: “There will be quite a few people watching tonight, but it’s about the average. If only 400 thousand viewers would look at it, and even more important for us: 12 percent market share, then I would uncork the champagne.”
Well, on evening two, Marcel & Gijs is indeed up against that number of viewers – 391,000 people watched yesterday – but the market share in the commercial target group is far below the wishes of SBS 6. This is because only 9 percent of the market share is taken, and that is according to Tina Nijkamp ‘less than half of what VI scores’.
Jinek benefits
According to Tina, it is now clear how Marcel & Gijs will do in the next four weeks. “Just kidding. On day two of the first week without VI, it immediately becomes clear how important VI is for SBS 6 and it already seems clear how the coming weeks will be: Jinek Hoog and Hart en Show miss the influx of VI enormously.” writes she.
Where VI is always the number one talk show in the Netherlands, Marcel & Gijs is now number four, after Jinek (713 thousand), Op1 (580 thousand) and Time for MAX (448 thousand). “A major setback” writes ratings expert Joost Maiburg.
‘It is good’
Marcel responds in the podcast What a day that the viewing figures are as expected. “Then you wake up with a lot of pinging from one René Oosterman. That’s a man in his sixties with a haircut of a man in his forties. A higher hairline than average. And it always has its internal viewing figure analysis. To be honest, I don’t really understand that.”
Gijs: “Yes, that is really abracadabra.”
René is one of the thirty-four directors at Talpa. Marcel: “The only thing I know is that we got 391 thousand viewers and that’s to forecast so we don’t have to worry. It is entirely in line with René Oosterman’s prediction. (…) I see 391 and then I am a bit afraid of what will happen next.”
