Marc Overmars will no longer appeal against his suspension by world football association FIFA. The former Ajax director could still go to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS), but decided against it, reports Vlaams Dagblad The Gazet van Antwerp. He will therefore remain suspended until mid-November 2024.
Overmars, who is now technical director at Royal Antwerp, was suspended by FIFA following inappropriate behavior during his time at Ajax. He left Amsterdam in February 2022, when it became known that he had sent so-called ‘dick pics’ to a female employee.
In the Netherlands, Overmars had already been suspended for two years, of which one year was conditional. The punishment was imposed by the Institute for Sports Justice, which completed an investigation into Overmars’ behavior in November. FIFA subsequently took over that punishment.
Overmars previously appealed against FIFA’s punishment because he believes the length of the suspension is disproportionate, but this was rejected by the football association.
