Roy Donders gets a lot of flak from Marc-Marie Huijbregts. The comedian thinks it is unnecessary that the stylist makes such conservative statements about marriage. “I don’t quite understand that.”
For years, Roy Donders was known as a somewhat eccentric gay television star, but nowadays he plays a kind of macho straight man with an implanted beard. All very well, says Marc-Marie Huijbregts, but he thinks it is a bit out of place if Roy makes all kinds of conservative statements.
Husband and wife
At first it seemed like a publicity stunt: Roy suddenly has a girlfriend and also becomes a father. Yet the two are serious and there are even wedding plans. “I really want to marry Michelle,” says the reality star in the latest Beau Monde.
He continues: “Because I have a classical mindset – when I think of marriage, I think of a man and a woman – I never thought about getting married. Now that is different, it is suddenly an option.”
Marc-Marie angry
This statement angers Marc-Marie. “I think it’s fine, you know, go and marry her…”, he begins in his podcast.
Co-host Aaf Brandt Corstius: “I always thought Roy Donders was gay.”
Marc-Marie: “Yes, he had a boyfriend and stuff, he was also gay.”
Aaf: “Then why does he think of a man and a woman?”
Marc-Marie: “Yes, then he met Michelle and now he loves her and wants to marry her. That’s totally fine too…”
‘Hey crazy!’
Aaf: “But why is he suddenly like…”
Marc-Marie: “I just never understand that.”
Aaf: “No, I think that’s really weird.”
Marc-Marie: “That’s just like those people who have stopped smoking and then say to everyone who still smokes: ewhh, stop it! Then I think: yes, you say that now, but when you were still a smoker yourself… I never quite understand why he has to say now…”
Open minded
Aaf: “Yes, I think this is a very bad example, but good.”
Marc-Marie: “Yes, I agree and why would you say so?!”
Aaf: “Yes, and what do you care? Nevertheless.”
Marc-Marie: “Yes, what do you care! And maybe it’s nice if you have a life like he has, so to speak, that you’re a little open-minded towards other people. That you think: you can imagine that getting married for two men or two women is great fun. That it can be just as fun or even more fun. I think it’s amazing, but good.”
