The Bodelshausen fashion retailer Marc Cain recycles used tent tarpaulins. A bag collection was created in the upcycling project in collaboration with the outdoor brand Vaude, also based in Baden-Württemberg, Marc Cain announced on Tuesday. The models consist of a discarded tarpaulin that was already used at an event.
After the fashion show celebrating the brand’s 50th anniversary, the event tent will have a dual purpose. Two bag models made from it, a shopper and a cosmetic bag, breathe new life into the tarpaulin in the wildcat pattern.
Particular attention was paid to regionality, and so Vaude was chosen as a partner for processing and production in order to keep transport routes short. Unavoidable emissions from production are fully compensated for by the non-profit Swiss foundation “myclimate,” says Marc Cain.
The collection is all about expanding the recycling cycle. Marc Cain announced in January last year that he would continue to upgrade and recycle existing materials and products for as long as possible. In collaboration with the Stuttgart upcycling label revived the brand released a capsule made from old throw fabrics. Previously, waste materials were reused either internally or to support design schools.
The limited anniversary edition is now available in the brand’s online shop and is priced at 33.90 euros for the shopper and 29.90 euros for the cosmetic bag.
