The Bodelshausen-based fashion retailer Marc Cain has teamed up with the Stuttgart-based upcycling label Wiederbebt to set up a material cycle in which existing materials and products can be upgraded and upcycled for as long as possible.
This means that Marc Cain will provide excess fabric as part of the planned project, from whichrevived will then produce new premium styles in its own sewing shop in Stuttgart.
Until now, Marc Cain has either used residual materials internally for trainee projects or donated them to support design colleges. The cooperation withrevived represents another alternative to the recycling of residues, the amount of which is too small for industrial recycling.
Alternate upcycling
“The innovative cooperation enables us to have our own residues processed into high-quality products and at the same time to support a local company. It was very exciting to exchange views on common sustainability challenges and to see how much passion Reanimates go to work,” explains Lena Solbach, Corporate Responsibility Specialist at Marc Cain, in a statement.
“We are very enthusiastic about the cooperation with the premium label Marc Cain. Not only do we share the same region, but above all we share the same values such as craftsmanship and long-lasting quality,” adds Sarah Kürten, Managing Director ofrevived.
Revitalized has been successfully reviving leftovers since 2015, concentrating on regional and responsible production and high-quality processing. The young label’s production facility is right next to its small shop in the heart of Stuttgart and only produces 50 pieces per style.
Unlike recycling, which uses a lot of water and energy to produce new fabrics or weave old ones, Upcycling recycles the purchased raw materials one-to-one, including well-preserved buttons, zippers and other haberdashery.
The Marc Cain x Resuscitated capsule collection will be available in the Revived online shop from spring 2023. The quantities of the individual parts are limited to 99 copies per article. No information has yet been given about the prices.
