Due to the injury, Marc-André Ter Stegen missed large parts of the past season. Now the goalkeeper fails again for a long time.

Bitter setback for Marc-André Ter Stegen: The German number one will be out for months. The goalkeeper himself announced this on the Instagram platform.

“Today is a personally difficult day for me. I feel physically and sporty in very good shape, even if I am unfortunately not painless,” wrote Ter Stegen. He had intensive discussions with the medical team of FC Barcelona and external experts. The consequence: back surgery is “the fastest and safest way for me to get completely fit again,” said the former Gladbacher.

“After my last back surgery, I returned to the pitch after 66 days-almost two months,” continued the 33-year-old. “This time the doctors assume that as a precaution, about three months will be necessary to avoid any risk.”

Ter Stegen had lacked FC Barcelona and the German national team over six months due to a patella tendon tear in the past season. In the 23/24 season, he had to pause for several months due to a back injury. Now the next bad news follows.

“Emotionally it hurts not to be able to support the team during this time. Fortunately, rehabilitation is good and the way back is clear,” said Ter Steg about his new failure. He would further inform about his recovery and thanked him for the support of the fans of FC Barcelona. “Don’t worry – I’m coming back,” assured Ter Stegen.

The World Cup finals in the USA in the coming year, in Canada and Mexico, should actually be the number one in the German goal. The long failure of the goalkeeper poses a big challenge with national coach Julian Nagelsmann.

The tough weeks are continuing for ter Stegen. FC Barcelona’s year -long stem keeper was degraded to number three under the German coach Hansi Flick this summer. The Spanish champion and cup winner supposedly wants to get rid of ter Stegen, also in order to save his millions.
