Marathon Cup Hoorn lasts a lap too long for Daan Gelling from Huizinge

The sixth round of the Daikin Marathon Cup was a prey for the Belgian Bart Swings in Hoorn. Daan Gelling from Huizinge showed well in the battle for the Sjoerd Huisman Bokaal, but had to pay for it in the last round and saw a lot of skaters thunder over him.

The Groninger had gone out in the final rounds with none other than Jorrit Bergsma, but the Frisian from Jumbo-Visma did not take over with two laps to go, knowing that he had a fast man as a teammate with Harm Visser. the platoon had been seated.

Gelling was overtaken when the bell rang and collapsed on the last lap and ultimately finished outside the top 10. In the sprint for victory, Belgian Bart Swings took over Visser. Sjoerd den Hartog from Groningen took ninth place. Jorrit Bergsma finished fourth.

Ladies from the north

For the women, former Olympic champion Esmee Visser kept the pace high in the last laps and so it was time to sprint. Esther Kiel did this best, but the ladies from the North also showed themselves from the front. Maaike Verweij from Veenhuizen took the podium with a third place and Arianna Pruisscher from Nieuw-Dordrecht managed to take eighth place in Hoorn. Elsemieke van Maaren may ride the next Marathon Cup in the orange leader’s suit.
