Barcelona en Comú supports Colau and proclaims that he leaves with the options intact to revalidate the mayor’s office
The electoral dispute for the Mayor’s Office of Barcelona begins to stir with an intense day this Saturday. The three parties that start with the most options to command the city council have organized events this weekend with their sights already set on the municipal elections next May. Apart from the proclamation of Jaume Collboni as the PSC’s candidate for the third time, Barcelona en Comú and ERC have convened their respective conferences to start defining the program with which the elections will concur. The Republican mayor, Ernest Maragall, rules out any option for the ‘comuns’ in the struggle for control in the city, while Ada Colau’s party replies that the mayor’s aspirations to continue leading the council are intact.
As he has been reiterating for months, ERC predicts that only republicans and socialists are in a position to compete for the head of the city council. Maragall has pointed out that an “exciting career & rdquor; by the mayor “between the alternative that the PSC continues to offer from a certain continuity and, it seems that definitely Jaume Collboni and ERC as a great project of ambition & rdquor ;.
The Republican has not hesitated to consider Barcelona en Comú written off. “The project of the ‘comuns’ has already given everything it could give of itself”, has opined the leader of Esquerra in the city council, who has observed that the formation of the mayor has worn out after more than seven years of government. “He is not capable of adding, specifying or turning dreams into projects & rdquor ;, he has recriminated.

For their part, the ‘comuns’ entrust themselves to Colau to continue governing the city. “We have the best candidate, without a doubt”, praised the deputy mayor for Urban Planning, Janet Sanz, during the conclave to which 400 people have registered to define the programmatic lines of Barcelona en Comú. The leader has highlighted the skills that, in her opinion, allow Colau to leave with high expectations of revalidating the position. “She is an internationally renowned mayor, who has courageously led the change in the cityputting life in the center in all its spheres & rdquor ;, he highlighted.
At the same time, Sanz has ensured that the ‘comuns’ will be “incorruptible & rdquor; in the face of what he has called “judicial attacks & rdquor;, in reference to the decision of the Barcelona Court to reopen the case for which Colau is being investigated for alleged favoritism in the payment of subsidies to social entities. “Public and decent housing is at stake or surrender to vulture funds, guarantee a city full of life and less polluted or return to smoke and noise & rdquor ;. Along the same lines, Sanz has assured that in the next municipal ones it is disputed that “citizens can continue taking the floor and decide how they want the city to be or that there will once again be four who decide for all & rdquor ;.
