A judge approved the request of the Argentina Prosecutor’s Office to hold an oral and public trial, local Argentine media reported. The trial could begin in late 2023 or early 2024.
Among the eight suspects are Leopoldo Luque, Maradona’s personal physician, and psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov. All suspects deny the charge of manslaughter. They face up to 25 years in prison.
Maradona died on November 25, 2020 at the age of 60 in a private residence north of Buenos Aires, a few weeks after undergoing brain surgery. According to researchers, serious mistakes have been made in the home care of one of the best football players ever. Maradona was in poor health.
