Maradona and the mystery of the statue: the hypothesis of abuse of office appears

After the work installed at the San Paolo has been returned to the artist Sepe, an investigation is looming on the definition of the tender

The mystery of the Maradona statue continues and it will certainly take some time before seeing it again on display, without of course knowing where it will be on display today. After the Municipality returned it to the artist Sepe and the latter feared the possibility of assigning it to the Bombonera in Buenos Aires, the reasons that prompted the mayor Manfredi to temporarily refuse the sculpture are beginning to emerge which – moreover – had also been inaugurated in the presence of the institutions on the occasion of the first anniversary of the death of the Pibe de Oro.

HYPOTHESIS OF OFFENSE

At the basis of Manfredi’s decision there would be alleged irregularities in the definition of a tender that was supposed to allow citizens and art experts to contribute to the installation of the work, which was then the prerogative of Sepe (which was totally unrelated to the investigation). A hypothesis that could push the Naples prosecutor’s office to request the indictment of, among others, former public officials, including the former councilor Eleonora De Majo.

INTERCEPTIONS

In practice there would be the hypothesis of an abuse of office in relation precisely to the definition of the announcement that De Majo and Egidio Giordano (former councilor of the municipality) created by giving life to a commission which also contemplated the presence of some exponents of the acronyms of fans. The latter, according to some interceptions, would have tried to control the assignment of the work aimed at setting up a sculpture, outside the Fuorigrotta stadium, in honor and memory of Maradona. And it is on this aspect that the attention of the prosecutors Antonello Ardituro, Celeste Carrano, Danilo De Simone who are investigating the matter is focusing. That’s why the statue has returned to its rightful owner waiting to be donated – again – to the Municipality with all due respect to everyone, starting with the artist Sepe who obviously would prefer to see it displayed outside the old San Paolo rather than at the Bombonera.
