Mapuche Conflict: Espert and his “State of Siege” in Villa Mascardi

The deputy of Avanza Libertad, Jose Luis Espertpresented a project to declare a state of siege in the area of Villa Mascardi, in Río Negro due to the resurgence of violence in the Mapuche conflict. The initiative comes after the Unified Security Command of the Federal Forces evict the community lof Lafken Winkul Mapu, after a group belonging to this community took over the central cabin of the “Los Radales” property, where members of the lof had set fire to a Gendarmerie shelter that even had gunshot marks. This is how Espert communicated his project in a tweet:

For Espert, the state of siege generates fear in the people because they have been decreed, in general, by de facto governments, but he affirms that said procedure “is in the constitution” and is “duly regulated in several articles.” “You have to remove all kinds of drama from the State of Siege. I also insisted and insist that the Mapuches have to be taken seriously because they have been going around for 5 years, they have empowered themselves, nobody has attacked them properly, José Luis Espert told FM Delta.

“Thousands of troops are needed and Chile has to be involved, suffering the same as us, on the other side of the Cordillera,” added the Liberal, referring to the very similar conflicts that the neighboring country has with various Mapuche communities.

The Auditor General of the Nation and member of Together for Change, Miguel Angel Pickettosupported the initiative of Espert.

In addition to the controversies unleashed by the project, Espert received strong criticism for having posted a video on his Instagram account, where he stated that the Mapuches responsible for the acts of violence had to be “imprisoned” or “shot”. The provincial deputy of Neuquén Union (UNE), Mariano Mansilla, He criminally denounced the legislator for “apology of crime” and “public intimidation”, after his statements became known.

Mansilla formalized the presentation before the Complaint Reception Office of the Justice of the City of Buenos Aires and considered that the liberal’s statements fall within the provisions of article 212 of the Penal Code and that “they constitute an apology for the crime for which it could be investigated in accordance with the provisions of article 213 of the same code.” “Espert’s expressions they do nothing but stigmatize the Mapuche people and profoundly ignore their culture,” said Mansilla.

The leader of Avanza Libertad came out to answer him on Twitter: “Look for a decent job, Mansilla,” Espert told Mansilla, who followed the fight on Twitter. “I’ve been working since I was a kid, look for me at the Afip I’ve been in a liberal profession for 25 years. In any way, it has to do with asking for bullets against any other group of Argentines. It’s a crime. I hope you don’t hide in the jurisdictions, that you don’t they are for that”, replied the Neuquén deputy.
