The stereotypical mafia wife looks roughly like this: A tight black outfit, stiletto heels and hair styled to show off either in a feminine bun or big waves. Big gold jewelry, sunglasses and, of course, a fur coat crown the ensemble.

It looks like this mob wife -aesthetics, which has become a viral phenomenon on Tiktok in recent weeks. The mafia wife’s style is something between the top-dressed and the suttur. In all its versatility, the look is perfectly flattering. A touch of animal prints completes the whole.

The popularity is surprising, as the #mobwife tag has already collected more than 200 million views in the application.

Not quiet luxury at all

A mob wife is exactly what it sounds like: a woman who wants to look like a mobster’s wife. Although it may sound like this trend idolizes organized crime, it’s worth remembering that for many, dressing up is just playing and having fun without any other message.

The mafia wife style is a real counterattack to the quiet luxury that has come into fashion recently. Especially because the mafioso’s wife likes to show that she has money.

Examples of mafia wife style are The Sopranos series, the reality TV series Mob Wives and the Godfather and Mafia Brothers movies. Similar aesthetics have also been seen in other TV series and movies throughout the decades.

The coat matters

While some people order a mafia wife style when they are looking for a new faux fur, many can’t bring themselves to join the new social media trend again. If you want to take over this style, it requires attitude.

– Social media has a bit of a lack of aesthetics. Now every little trend is named, he says Sarah Arcuri, 29, in a New York Post article. Arcuri is a social media influencer from New Jersey who calls herself the queen of the mob wife style. She has been using the #mobwife tag on Tiktok since 2022 and has been dressing in the style since her high school days.

In this Tiktok video, Arcuri shows how the mafia wife style is created. If the video doesn’t appear, watch it from here.

We don’t believe or hope that this Tiktok trend will make Finns rush to fur shopping, but it’s worth taking a look at the wigs and flea coats in the closets.

– We prefer to use vintage and wild fur, or what we have in the basements and closets of our homes. Let’s use them to raise vintage furs to their rightful value, says Outi Pyy, a sustainability influencer in his Instagram post.

Old vintage fur is a more durable and environmentally friendly choice than buying new faux fur. In his post, Pyy reminds us that disposing of old fur out of shame is not ecological. According to Py, it is ecological to use and repair vintage furs for as long as possible.

In recent years, subtle mafia wife style has also been seen on fashion influencers. You could take inspiration from these looks for a modern mob wife style.
