Many companies in Germany keep an eye on their greenhouse gas footprint. This emerges from a study on the topic of sustainability that the Bertelsmann Foundation published on Thursday in Gütersloh. 362 companies were surveyed online for the “Sustainability Transformation Monitors 2024”. Accordingly, around 70 percent of the companies surveyed know their own so-called greenhouse gas footprint.
Another 25 percent are currently working on collecting the value. According to the study results, over 40 percent have set climate goals that are in line with the Paris Climate Agreement from 2015. 21 percent have set more general climate goals, 30 percent are working on their goals.
In the coming years, more and more companies will be required by law to document their own efforts towards CO2 neutrality in their annual reports. One of the basis for this is the EU Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).
The Bertelsmann Foundation created the Sustainability Transformation Monitor, or STM for short, for the second time together with the Mercator Foundation, the University of Hamburg and the Peer School for Sustainable Development. The online survey for the Sustainability Transformation Monitor 2024 took place from September to November 2023 and was aimed at representatives from the real and financial sectors. (dpa)
