Many celebrities have participated in The Voice of Finland

Many well-known pop stars have tried their hand at the popular format. Favorite actors have also been heard on The Voice of Finland.

The Voice of Finland returns in January with episodes of the 12th season. Over the years, it has been debated whether the talent search format will bring any new names to the Finnish music scene.

The program’s star coaches have their views on the matter.

Rapper Elastinen, that is Kimmo Laiho returns as the star coach of The Voice of Finland program after a break of many years. Elastinen’s successful career began in the late 1990s, when Finnish-language hip hop pioneer duo Fintelligens broke through.

In addition to his own route, Elastinen has closely followed another path to music heaven.

– There are a few different routes. It’s working in the basement and sending demos. This is the other route where you can get a big boost or a shortcut. This doesn’t promise anything. This is like a job interview and after that we get down to business. A screen place for singers, Elastinen says.

The star coach describes the TVOF program as “one of the healthiest formats”.

– Here there has always been only good energy and a positive approach – no giggling or trying to embarrass the singer or create a trap, Elastinen says.

He continues that “old school Idols” definitely wouldn’t work anymore.

– If we look, it’s starting to be a time when quite a few of the artists of the moment have gone through some format at first, Elastinen says.

Star coach Maija Vilkkumaa is on the same lines as Elastic.

– Sometimes there has been talk about why the program no longer jumps to the top of the charts. I think it is strongly related to the fact that the music world in general has changed. “Straight to the top of the charts” doesn’t really exist anymore, Vilkkumaa says.

Vilkumaa emphasizes that even though it feels like “the artist has suddenly surfaced from nowhere”, there is a longer arc in the background.

– Music is released all the time. There is so much noise. It requires a lot of your own vision and vision of what you want to do. That’s fine with me. That’s really how it’s always been, Vilkkumaa states.

– When such music programs and competitions started, such sudden things happened. It’s not good for the artist himself, because then you don’t learn the work, Vilkkumaa continues.

Vilkkumaa, who works as a star coach, believes that in addition to his own vision, the live broadcasts offered by The Voice of Finland, which are also pressured by the large audience, are not a hindrance to success in an artist’s career.

– Every time someone becomes a new pop singer, they have been to one of the Voice. For example Delay has been on The Voice Kids, Vilkkumaa says.
