After FC Bayern’s victory against Manchester United (1-0) in the Champions League, Manuel Neuer confidently answered journalists’ questions in the catacombs of Old Trafford. However, after the 1:5 defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt, the captain remained silent. An approach that could have raised eyebrows among Bayern bosses. At least that’s what Dietmar Hamann believes.
“We can achieve anything with our team,” said Neuer after the victory in the premier class.
The captain added confidently: “A lot depends on our form on the day and who we face. But if we play as courageously as we did today, if we accept it and don’t think that it will happen on its own, then we can go far. That is our big goal.”
FC Bayern: Hamann criticizes Neuer
Hamann criticized the fact that Neuer gives interviews after victories but holds back publicly when he loses.
“If they play as seriously and professionally as they did in Manchester, they are a really good team, then someone has to beat them first,” wrote the ex-professional in his “Sky” column. Therefore, Neuer’s statement is fundamentally “not wrong”.
“But of course, as one of the leading players, you also have to know that you can’t always only speak after victories, but after defeats, like the last one in Frankfurt, you remain silent,” complained Hamann and added: “I can imagine that they do that at Bayern addressed internally.”
Hamann was very satisfied with FC Bayern’s performance at Manchester United. “The Munich team played on Tuesday the way I would like them to play more often. They controlled throughout the entire game, in contrast to the last few games, they hardly allowed anything at the back, created chances up front and scored the winning goal,” he praised 50 year old TV expert.
