Manodj B. (42) from Hoorn has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for killing and disappearing the missing Sumanta Bansi. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) had demanded 15 years. He himself was not present at the verdict, as was co-defendant Dwarka B.
Sumanta has been missing for almost 4.5 years. At that time she was staying in Hoorn with the family of Manodj B., the man with whom she also had a secret relationship. Sumanta was also pregnant by him. But from one day to the next, the 22-year-old woman disappeared without a trace on February 18, 2018. Without any reason, and her bank card, public transport card or telephone have not been used since then.
Manodj B. soon came into the picture with the police. He overheard conversations from him and his family for a long time. That was also the main evidence for the assessment. For example, Manodj said in a conversation with his brother: “I went straight through her heart with that thing, dead, done.”
Manodj denies involvement
Manodj B. himself denies any involvement. He dismisses the statements in tapped conversations as boasting when he was under the influence. And also according to his lawyer Peter Plasman there was insufficient evidence.
Because Sumanta was never found. And that despite many searches for her body in first the Robbenoordbos near Wieringerwerf and the last times at recreation area the Hulk at Berkhout.
Co-defendant acquitted
Co-defendant and Manodj’s father, Dwarka B., was not convicted. The Public Prosecution Service has also asked for an acquittal against him. According to the OM, the man would have known about the act, but there is no evidence that he is an accomplice.
