The Adler Mannheim are the new leaders of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) after a goal festival.
Head coach Dallas Eakins’ team celebrated a spectacular 8:5 (4:1, 3:2, 1:2) win against champions Eisbären Berlin and took over the top position from ERC Ingolstadt, who lost 1:3 (1:1, 0:2, 0:0) against Red Bull Munich and slipped to fourth place.
The Munich team, who secured their eighth league success in a row, are now in third place in the table, immediately ahead of the ERC. Meanwhile, Mannheim’s new first pursuer is the Kölner Haie. After a strong first third, the runner-up won 4:1 (3:0, 0:1, 1:0) at the Löwen Frankfurt and celebrated their fourth success in a row.
In the bottom of the table, the Dresden Ice Lions suffered a bitter setback. Two days after the win against Ingolstadt, the bottom team lost 3:5 (1:3, 1:2, 1:0) at the Straubing Tigers. The gap to the saving bank is nine points.
The man of the evening in Mannheim was Zachary Solow. The 27-year-old initially gave his team the lead in the 13th minute, and later in the encounter he prepared three more goals for the Adler.
