Manhunt for Dutchman (21) in Italy after stabbing father and friend to death: ‘We can’t comprehend it’ | Abroad

A manhunt is underway in Italy on Wednesday after a 21-year-old Dutch boy stabbed his father and a family friend to death. According to the Italian news agency ANSA, he then fled.

A helicopter circled for a long time above the small village of Montaldo Mondovì (less than 600 inhabitants) while the surrounding area was combed by the carabinieri, Italy’s military police. The emergency services came in large numbers to the town after a report of a stabbing.

A fight broke out in the family friend’s house. The Dutchman and his father, a general practitioner from Harderwijk, stayed there during their vacation. At a certain point, the man would have taken a knife from the kitchen. First he beat up his father, after which the friend jumped in. He was also injured by stabbings. The 59-year-old friend, also a Dutchman, was taken to hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

Family

The family of the doctor confirms the drama. “We can’t comprehend it yet,” the sister told this site on Wednesday evening. She lives with her parents and other relatives in Harderwijk. She does not want to say anything about the manhunt for her cousin now.

Italian media write that the perpetrator has psychological problems. He fled into nature after his deed. Because he is considered dangerous, a massive manhunt has been launched. With the onset of darkness, the chances of finding him have diminished. The small village is located in a fairly remote area surrounded by forests and abandoned buildings.
