Mango opens flagship store on Fifth Avenue in New York

Mango has opened a new flagship store in New York on Fifth Avenue. The store is located near the famous Saks Fifth Avenue flagship store and the Rockefeller Center tourist attraction and has an area of 2,139 square meters.

“The opening of the new flagship store is an important step towards our strategic goals for international expansion and our distribution ecosystem, but most importantly it is the first step in solidifying our brand presence in the United States, one of the most important markets in the world ” said Toni Ruiz, CEO of Mango, in a statement.

The store is housed in a historic late 1920’s building that was formerly the headquarters of major corporations such as NBC, Columbia Pictures and Coca-Cola. In the future, Mango will offer its men’s, women’s and children’s collections there. The shop was opened with the brand’s current Spring/Summer 2022 collections. This includes a capsule collection inspired by the 90s, which picks up on trend colors such as yellow, green and pink. On the other hand, there will also be more relaxed and Mediterranean collections, including ‘Visions of Summer’, a collection of clothing made from linen and cotton fabrics.

The floors, ceilings, lighting and plumbing of the existing building that previously housed Polo Ralph Lauren’s flagship store were reused. In addition, biodegradable materials were used for the interior paneling. In total, around 70 percent of the original materials were reused in the store design. The new Mango flagship also features ‘Committed Boxes’ – containers where customers can donate clothes and shoes to give them a second life.

The new New York flagship is part of Mango’s global expansion plan. The company plans to open about 30 new stores over the next three years, primarily in the southern parts of the United States. The total number of new stores is set to increase to 40 by 2024. Mango’s next big target is Florida, where the company plans to open four to five stores in cities like Miami, Boca Raton, Orlando, and Tampa in 2022 and 2023. A new Lincoln Road store is slated to open in Miami in July. Two new stores are also planned at Aventura Mall and Miami International Mall in Miami.

Future markets in Mango’s third phase of expansion include Georgia, Arizona, Texas, Nevada and California. In 2021, Mango already opened four new stores; at Menlo Park and America in New Jersey, Roosevelt Field in New York and at Dadeland Mall in Miami.

For the inauguration of the flagship, art, fashion and technology are combined

To celebrate the opening of its Fifth Avenue flagship store, Mango has designed an NFT collection of artworks featuring Joan Miró, Antoni Tàpies and Miquel Barceló, three renowned Spanish artists. For 11 days, the new Fifth Avenue store will become a physical, digital and virtual museum, offering customers a shopping experience that blends art, fashion and technology. The physical works of the three artists will be on display along with screens showing the NFTs. The Metaverse will also house the collection, in the museum district of the virtual world ‘Decentraland’, where a physical, digital and virtual experience will take place.

Together with various artists, Mango has reinterpreted two works by Miró, two more by Tàpies and one work by Barceló, bringing five NFTs to life. In interpreting the works, the artists have used various garments from the Mango collection currently available in the store.

As in March for Metaverse Fashion Week, Mango will exhibit the five works in a virtual space in Decentraland’s Museum District. In parallel, the five NFTs will be uploaded to the OpenSea platform, one of the leading marketplaces for NFTs that use blockchain technology but are not offered for sale.

For the development of the digital works, Mango collaborated with the artists Farkas and Marcos Tamargas, one of the leading artists of the Spanish art scene, who has been painting portraits of women who have won the Nobel Prize since 2019, and Adri Bonsai, winner of the Goya for the best animated Short film 2018. In addition to the five artworks in NFT format, Mango has developed four new sellable wearables and a POAP (Proof of Attendance Protocol), a type of NFT that accredits attendance at an event.
