Måneskin have commented on the censorship allegations against MTV after their performance at the VMAs in the Prudential Center, Newark (New Jersey): “All this shows that countless prejudices against rock bands and women still exist. There’s still a lot of work to do and we’re trying to do our best to get it done,” said frontman Damiano David.
The affected bassist De Angelis herself about the incident in an interview with “NME”: “It’s sad, but it’s good that people at least talk about it and think about it afterwards. It’s stupid that this control and censorship of people’s bodies has to happen at all.”
The background to Måneskin’s show at the VMAs
During the play “Supermodel,” bassist Victoria De Angelis lost her top at the August 28 VMAs. Due to the incident, only the audience during the band’s performance was shown on television afterwards. On Twitter, fans criticized MTV for averting the cameras and thus “censoring”.
