Mané announces shirt number at Bayern Munich

Ever since Sadio Mané was presented at FC Bayern, fan circles have been puzzling over which shirt number the new superstar will wear for the German soccer champions. The new signing from Liverpool FC has now revealed which number he intends to use for Bayern Munich from now on.

On Sunday, FC Bayern revealed the secret themselves by on his club website published a statement by Sadio Mané.

“I chose 17 among the free jersey numbers at FC Bayern and I want to celebrate a lot of success with my team and this number,” the 30-year-old was quoted as saying on the German record champions’ website.

Until recently, there had been speculation about a possible potential for conflict with regard to the shirt number. The Senegalese star had worn the number 10 shirt for most of his professional career. However, this has already been assigned to Leroy Sané at Bayern Munich.

It is now clear that the left-footed player will be able to keep his 10 – without any possible rows within the team.

Prominent shirt number predecessors at FC Bayern

Mané, on the other hand, has opted for number 17, which he has never worn in his career. In addition to the traditional shirt number 10, the long-time top performer at Liverpool FC had also been active in the past with the numbers 19, 40 and 21 at his predecessor clubs.

The detailed question about Mané’s shirt number has now been answered, and the player himself was relieved: “Now I’m very happy if I can soon start preparing for the season with my new teammates.”

Incidentally, with the number 17, Sadio Mané is following in prominent footsteps at FC Bayern. In recent years, central defender Jérôme Boateng (2011 to 2021) and former team captain Mark van Bommel (2006 to 2011) have worn this number successfully for the past 15 years.
