The French-speaking appointments committee of the High Council of Justice (HRJ) decided on Friday to extend the mandate of Laurence Massart as first president of the Brussels Court of Appeal for five years. Former Minister of Justice Vincent Van Quickenborne (Open Vld) had refused this on the basis of the principle of linguistic alternation, but the Council of State blew his whistle back.
