Mancini and the children disguised as Osimhen: “Racism? I see wonder”

The coach had his say on the case that arose after the post by the Nigerian-born writer Sabrina Efionay, according to whom certain gifts give “goosebumps”

Roberto Mancini uses social media with admirable moderation. He posts some content only if he really has something to say or some emotion to share. This time he used Instagram stories to talk about racism.

The controversy

The coach must have been particularly annoyed by the controversy that arose during the Carnival over Neapolitan children disguised as Osimhen. On Shrove Tuesday, the Neapolitan writer of Nigerian origins Sabrina Efionay wrote this comment on Facebook: “Whenever a black player excels in a team (in this case, Napoli) I always have tremendous anxiety about how should be celebrated. From Sorbillo’s solidarity with Koulibaly who painted his face black, to the children you colored brown in ‘honor’ of Osimhen for Carnival. Believe me, it’s not celebratory at all. It really gives goosebumps if you think it’s supportive, funny, a mask or an endorsement for the Nigerian footballer.”

“Just Wonder”

A post that opened a debate in which Mancini wanted to have his say. With two photos in the stories. In the first, four boys and a girl with a Napoli shirt and dark colored faces, with a comment: “Where some see racism, I see only WONDER. Sport is inclusion and you children are giants!”. In the second, the image of another boy in a blue suit, who in addition to coloring his face has painted the famous mask around his eyes. Coach’s comment: “Superb”.
