CR7 future “not my decision”
Manchester United’s interim coach Ralf Rangnick reacted with incomprehension to the boos and whistles from fans towards Paul Pogba (29) in the 3-2 win against bottom Norwich City. “I can understand if the fans are frustrated and disappointed, so are we. I don’t think it makes sense to target individuals or players. It’s a collective responsibility. It doesn’t make any sense to me, and that’s why I will always defend and protect my players,” Rangnick said after the game (quoted via “London Evening Standard”).
The 63-year-old did not notice the negative reactions himself, but only found out about them afterwards. Basically, he thought the fans were “great here, really. The support at the stadium was great today, it couldn’t have been better.” Apparently angry, midfielder Pogba, whose contract with the Red Devils is ending, put his hand to his ear after the abuse.

“That was probably his reaction to the chants from the fans. As I said, I can understand the fans and supporters in a way, but it doesn’t make sense to mess with individual players,” said Rangnick. Pogba was substituted in the 74th minute. Cristiano Ronaldo (37) scored a flawless hat-trick for the three goals against Norwich City. The fans had protested against the American club owners, the Glazer family, during the game. The sometimes toxic atmosphere was also transferred to the encounter.
Rangnick, who could be replaced on the bench by Ajax coach Erik ten Hag for the new season, did not want to comment on the future of “CR7” in detail. “It’s ultimately not my decision. Cristiano has one year left on his contract. The new coach will have to make this decision together with the board,” said Rangnick (quoted via Manchester Evening News). Ronaldo once again showed that “at moments like this, in games like this, he can make the difference and it’s no coincidence that he has the best goal average of any player in history. He showed that again today.”
