Conversations with Varane and Martial

Manchester United have announced the contract extensions of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelöf and Hannibal. The “Red Devils” made use of the options anchored in the working papers. The trio, who were previously among the world’s most valuable footballers with contracts expiring in 2024, are therefore tied for another year.

The talks with Raphaël Varane (contract until 2025) and Anthony Martial (until 2024) are continuing. “I think this is an internal discussion between the club and the players,” explained coach Erik ten Hag when asked about the two Frenchmen at a press conference on Thursday. There has been some speculation recently, especially about Varane, including moves to the Emirates or to FC Bayern and Real Madrid. Martial has been part of the squad since 2015 and is therefore one of the longest-serving.

It is questionable whether Hannibal will continue to play for Man United despite extra time in the second half of the season. The 20-year-old midfielder recently decided not to take part in the Africa Cup of Nations with Tunisia because he wants to concentrate on his club career in January – and could end up in the Bundesliga. Loud Fabrizio Romano wants to be given the right foot. Not missing the start of the second half of the season at his new club is apparently a higher priority for Hannibal than the continental tournament. Three clubs are named as possible buyers: in addition to FC Sevilla and Olympique Lyon, SC Freiburg is also one of them.
