Manchester United confirm Juan Mata departure – wants to continue playing

Fifth free transfer

After Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard, Manchester United also confirmed the departure of Juan Mata on Thursday. The 34-year-old Spaniard, who came to the Red Devils from Chelsea for over 44 million euros in winter 2014, played a total of 285 games for the English record champions, in which he was directly involved in 98 goals. However, Mata only played 409 minutes in 12 games last season.

Mata is not yet thinking about the end of his career. According to The Athletic, the attacking player has requests from his native Spain, but is more inclined towards a new adventure in another country. “I still have a lot of passion and the will to continue enjoying football. It’s a dream come true to be a professional footballer, so I want to play as much as I can,” Mata said in April. He is United’s fifth free transfer alongside Pogba and Lingard, as well as Edinson Cavani and Nemanja Matić, while Lee Grant is also retiring.
