Manchester City: Will Pep Guardiola stay even if relegation is forced?

3rd league could be threatened

A Pep Guardiola in the third division? Not out of the question, says the Spaniard himself. He is apparently not making his future at Manchester City dependent on the ongoing investigations against the club. He even said: “The chances of staying are better if we are in League One than if we win the Champions League.”

The investigation against Man City concerns possible violations of the Premier League’s financial rules. He wanted to wait for the verdict, “but I will definitely not think about my future if it depends on being here or in League One,” said Guardiola. The Premier League is accusing City of around 80 alleged breaches of its financial rules and 30 other breaches for allegedly failing to cooperate with an investigation. In the worst case scenario, the English champions face exclusion from the league. In England, only the first division clubs are organized in a common league association, autonomous from the English Football League EFL, to which the clubs in the second to fourth divisions are subject.

It may be doubted whether Guardiola even took the question posed to him at a press conference seriously, but he emphasized: “We don’t agree with what people are accusing us of. We will defend ourselves. And after the decision has been made, I will be here as a spokesman for my club.” In terms of sport, however, things are going well again for Guardiola and the treble winner. Ahead of the top game this Saturday (1:30 p.m.) against Liverpool FC under coach Jürgen Klopp, City leads the table in England ahead of the Reds (to the live ticker).
