Manchester City: Sergio Gómez comes from RSC Anderlecht – BVB concede

“Dream Come True”

Now it’s official: ex-BVB professional Sergio Gómez is moving from RSC Anderlecht to Manchester City. The 21-year-old has signed a contract with the “Citizens” until June 30, 2026. The left-back will not be loaned out, as has been speculated, but will compete with João Cancelo (28) at the English champions. This was previously confirmed by coach Pep Guardiola.

According to the English media, Man City will transfer 13 million euros to RSC Anderlecht, to which Gómez was originally bound until 2025. In Belgium there is even talk of 15 million euros, which could increase to more than 20 million euros with bonuses. BVB can also be happy about this.

According to Belgian media, the black and yellow collect 15 percent of the transfer fee thanks to a resale participation. Anderlecht signed the defender for €1.5m from Borussia Dortmund last summer after spending two years on loan at SD Huesca. For BVB it was only enough for three professional appearances in 2018/19. With a transfer fee of 13 million euros, Dortmund would pocket almost 2 million euros.

Gómez celebrated his big breakthrough in Anderlecht. The Spain youth international made 50 appearances and was directly involved in 22 goals (seven goals/15 assists). Its market value rose from EUR 2.5 million to EUR 10 million. The performances in Belgium also convinced those responsible in Manchester, who were looking for a new left-back after the departure of Oleksandr Zinchenko (25).

“I’m incredibly proud and happy to have joined Manchester City. City are the best team in England and with Pep Guardiola I have the chance to learn and develop under the best manager in world football,” said Gómez. “To be a part of this club is a dream come true for me and something any young player would aspire to.”
