Game abandoned in Bournemouth
Manchester City lost what they thought was a certain home win in the Premier League. Against Crystal Palace, who had no chance for a long time, the Skyblues only managed a 2-2 (1-0) draw on Saturday despite a two-goal lead. Top talent Michael Olise scored a penalty for the visitors from London in the fifth minute of injury time, causing frustration in Manchester, which has only won one of its last six league games and may have to allow Liverpool, Arsenal and Aston Villa to move ahead in the table.
Initially, star coach Pep Guardiola’s clearly superior team took the lead in the Etihad Stadium at home with goals from Jack Grealish (24th minute) and Rico Lewis (54th). Another goal from Rodri didn’t count because it was offside. The follow-up goal from former Mainz player Jean-Philippe Mateta (76′) came practically out of nowhere and Olise’s converted penalty to make it the final score was only the guests’ second direct shot on goal. Man City remains fourth in the Premier League table.
Meanwhile, Chelsea FC won 2-0 (0-0) at home against bottom-placed Sheffield United. For the Blues, who have so far fallen far short of their own expectations this season, they only got their sixth win in their 17th game of the season. Cole Palmer (54th) and Nicolas Jackson (61st) scored at Stamford Bridge for the Londoners, who are in midfield despite the win. The gap between Sheffield and a non-relegation zone was already six points after the final whistle.

Bournemouth vs Luton Town: Lockyer collapsed
There was a shocking moment in the game between AFC Bournemouth and Luton Town that caused the game to be abandoned. Visiting captain Tom Lockyer collapsed on the pitch after around an hour after suffering a head injury. The 29-year-old was treated on the field and was responsive again after a short time. He was taken off the field on a stretcher to loud applause from the audience. The referee then sent both teams to the dressing rooms and then did not whistle the game again. Luton and Bournemouth players only returned to the pitch to applaud the fans in the stadium.
“We are all hoping and praying for our leader and captain Tom Lockyer, who is fortunately responsive and has been taken to hospital,” said Luton Town. “We don’t yet know the full extent of what happened or what will happen next, but we thank Bournemouth and the medical staff on both sides for their immediate response, which was absolutely brilliant.”
The incident brought back memories of a similar horror moment in the spring. Back in May, Lockyer also collapsed during his team’s promotion game against Coventry. The Luton captain then underwent heart surgery. In June, doctors gave the green light for him to return to the field. “We apologize to all supporters in attendance that players from both teams were unable to continue the game after seeing their beloved team-mate and friend being transported away,” it said, “and the staff were also unable to continue the game not continue in such circumstances after having to deal with the situation.”
