The Russian opera singer Anna Netrebko is no longer represented by the Berlin management agency Center Stage Artist (CSAM). Without giving any details, this was confirmed by CSAM boss Judith Neuhoff to “BR”. Netrebko’s biographical information can no longer be found on the Universal subsidiary’s website, and the contact details have also been deleted from its own website.

She was celebrated in the Kremlin Palace

Since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine on February 24, the classic star has been criticized: Netrebko has condemned the war itself, but has not distanced himself from Vladimir Putin. Only last year did the soprano celebrate her 50th birthday in the Kremlin – among the well-wishers was Vladimir Putin, whom she had already supported in 2012 for his presidential election. The autocrat praised Netrebko as “an open, charming and kind-hearted person with a life-affirming character and a clear position as a citizen” – that “clear position” also includes a support for the Russian annexation of the Crimean Peninsula.

Netrebko, “the non-political”

After many of Netrebko’s concerts were canceled and further cancellations threatened, the musician has declared that she will “retire from concert life until further notice”. In a statement, she proclaimed herself an “apolitical person” – she was against “forcing artists or any public figure to make their political views public and to insult their fatherland”.
