Man who killed four people remains in custody longer for drug offense

Omar E., the 28-year-old man from Roosendaal who caused an accident in Oud Gastel last year in which two mothers and two children died, will remain in custody longer. The court in Breda decided this on Tuesday afternoon. Not for the fatal collision, but because of the discovery of more than 13 kilos of soft drugs and 38,500 euros in cash at the Reginadonk in Roosendaal.

He was arrested by the police at the beginning of August. Two houses on Reginadonk were searched and drugs and a lot of cash were found in one of the houses. Omar E. had just been released a few months after he was arrested for the fatal collision in Oud Gastel.

When the police wanted to arrest him, Omar E. ran off. But he was caught just before he wanted to climb over the fence. Another man (36) from Roosendaal was also arrested at Reginadonk in Roosendaal. A 39-year-old man from Halsteren was stopped on the highway on his way to Belgium with more than a kilo of soft drugs.

‘Not a crumb of drugs’
Justice believes that a significant trade in soft drugs took place from the Reginadonk in Roosendaal. During the substantive hearing next year, it should become clear who played which role. On Tuesday afternoon, Omar E.’s lawyer said that ‘not a crumb of drugs’ had been found in his house. At the neighbors.

And the police may have seen Omar with big shoppers, but it was not investigated whether they contained drugs. “Maybe they were already in the car.”

Despite all defense, the court did not agree to provisionally release Omar E.. He wants this extra badly because his brother is getting married on December 24. And Omar is his best man. But the court does not consider that wedding important enough to lift his imprisonment.

Accident in Oud Gastel
Omar E. made the news when he rammed a crossing Toyota in Oud Gastel with a Mercedes rented in Germany last September. The enormous blow killed two mothers and two young children from Bosschenhoofd. A girl survived the crash.

Earlier this year, the court decided that E. could await his trial at home after six months of pre-trial detention. At least if he adhered to strict conditions. And one of those conditions was that he not engage in criminal activities.

The investigation into the accident has not yet been completed. Last Sunday, the justice department did a reconstruction of the accident. All kinds of measurements were taken at speeds between 50 and 170 kilometers per hour. That case will also be heard next year.

The next pro forma hearing is scheduled for March 1.
