Man United celebrate victory in Southampton in Casemiro debut

With Ronaldo as a joker

English record champions Manchester United are getting better and better after their false start in the English Premier League. The “Red Devils” won on Saturday with Cristiano Ronaldo as a joker at FC Southampton 1-0 (1-0) and after the 2-1 win against Jürgen Klopps FC Liverpool on Monday they got their second success in a row. With six points, the traditional club has improved into the upper middle of the table after four match days.

United manager Erik ten Hag started with the team that defeated arch-rivals Liverpool. In addition to Ronaldo, Brazilian Casemiro, who was signed by Real Madrid for almost 70 million euros, was initially on the bench. However, Manchester United did not initially bring the hoped-for momentum after the Liverpool coup.

The first chances came after 19 minutes: after three attempts to finish within a very short space of time, Southampton’s Armel Bella-Kotchap saved his club from going behind. The former Bochum player cleared a Christian Eriksen shot in front of the line. The German U21 national player had the opportunity to score the first goal after half an hour. His ball went just over the goal from close range.

After the change of sides, Manchester United took the first opportunity to take the lead: Compatriot Bruno Fernandes converted a cross from the Portuguese Diogo Dalot with a volley to make it 0-1 (55 ‘). Ten Hag brought Ronaldo for the weak ex-Dortmunder Jadon Sancho (68th). Casemiro also made his Premier League debut (80th). Man United wobbled in added time, but after seven away bankruptcies over the course of the season, they brought the advantage over time.
