Man threatens to set houses on fire, police shoot with bean bags

A man was arrested on Espelaar in Veghel on Monday afternoon for threatening to burn down someone’s house. When the officers wanted to take him home, he also threatened to set his own home on fire. The police entered with a SWAT team and shot the man with so-called bean bags twice. He was then taken to hospital in an ambulance with bruises.

On Monday afternoon, the police reported that they were trying to arrest a man with ‘misunderstood behavior’. The man, a resident of the Espelaar in Veghel, threatened to set someone’s house on fire. As a precaution, the entire street was cordoned off with police tape. Officers from the Special Interventions Service were also present.

When the officers went to the man to arrest him, he did not want to cooperate. He even threatened to burn down his own house if the officers entered.

According to a 112 correspondent, the man had jerry cans of gasoline in his living room. The police called in a negotiator who tried to talk the man down through an open window.

The man still refused to cooperate and the police kicked in the door. Then two bangs were heard inside. The police shot the man with so-called ‘bean bags’. These are bags with lead pellets that are intended to temporarily incapacitate someone.
