Man ‘surfs’ on the roof of a moving metro, GVB is dumbfounded

A man surfed a lot on Saturday evening on the roof of a moving metro in Amsterdam, between the stations Van der Madeweg and Overamstel. Images that another traveler made can be seen at dumper.

The images show that the man, who appears to be between twenty and thirty years old, is first squatting on the roof. Then he even stands up. The traveler sitting in a passing subway reacts with shock, as can be heard on the video.

Gone

A spokesman for the GVB says that the transport company is ‘stupid’. According to her, the man climbed onto the roof of the metro around 8 or 9 p.m. yesterday and remained on the roof until he reached the next station, Overamstel station. GVB personnel searched for him, but he had disappeared.

“It could have turned out very differently,” says the spokesman. “We really want to emphasize that we are surprised, that it is super dangerous and very stupid. It is also forbidden.”

Surveillance cameras

The GVB has saved the images from the surveillance cameras and has contacted the police. It is still being examined whether a report has been filed.

It seems very likely that the ‘metro surfer’ had a Gopro camera on his head and was therefore filming himself. Those images may turn up somewhere later.
