Bas K. (38) From Grave, TBS is given conditions because he almost killed a fellow patient in an institution in Helmond last year with a shoelace. The court in Den Bosch thus ignores the advice of the probation service to impose the man TBS with compulsory treatment.

K. had almost killed a fellow patient of GGZ Helmond by suddenly pulling a shoelace tight around her neck. Several employees managed to save the lives of the woman by immediately diving on Bas K. and freeing the choking woman. The court also sees that Bas K. was fully unaccountable at that time. The man was in a psychosis and was therefore admitted.

K. is dismissed from all legal proceedings, as it is called. And a treatment is imposed on him in the form of TBS with conditions. It is striking that the court imposes this milder form of TBS, but according to the court, TBS also has a sufficient chance of success with conditions.

Bas K. will be admitted to a care institution and over time he will have to live guided. There he will still be treated and checked for the use of alcohol and drugs. According to the court, these are sufficient conditions to ensure that K. gets enough structure and does not go wrong again.

Nothing does not remember
During the session it turned out that the 38-year-old man from Grave doesn’t remember anything about the incident. He was there as if the case was about another. He did regret a lot, because he said “this should never have happened.”

The man had the idea that he was being chased by the CIA and he heard voices. He smoked 7 to 8 joints a day to ‘forget things’. After a fierce fight with a friend, he decided to get himself up. And what K. was afraid of, then happened in the institution in Helmond.

On August 5, shortly after half past seven in the morning, he walked back into the kitchen from the garden. He walked to the fellow patient and pulled a white lace tight around her neck and did not let go. Thanks to the massively created staff, the woman was liberated.
