At the Smolensk monument in the center of Warsaw, a man allegedly threatened to blow himself up with a bomb. Images on social media show a man standing on top of the stepped monument. Pilsudski Square and surrounding streets are closed.
According to Polish media, in addition to many police officers, negotiators and counter-terrorism units are also present on the square.
The monument commemorates the 96 victims of a plane crash near Smolensk, Russia in 2010. The then president of Poland also died.
There are elections in Poland on Sunday.
