Man knocked unconscious in Nieuwpoort

Around midnight, the West Coast police were called because a man was said to be unconscious on the beach. The victim is a 53-year-old man from Alken, Limburg. When the police arrived, the man was already conscious again and was recovering on a couch. The man could not remember exactly how it happened, he does remember that he noticed a group that was setting off fireworks on the beach. He went to point out the danger to the group, because the flares flew towards the apartment buildings, but that was not appreciated. The Alkenaar was tackled hard by the group. He was pushed to the ground and also received several blows and punches.

The ambulance arrived, but the man refused to go to the hospital.
